Coaching worldwide, making boats faster, one sculler at a time.

Slow motion stroke analysis sculling rowing with Xeno Muller

Improving strokes worldwide one rower at a time. That is what I do and I love it. This stroke analysis is 32 minutes long. I point out the good and the bad. I explain which technical exercises need to be used and how those feel when they are done right. I make comments on rigging and explain why changes in rigging are needed. The result is superior power application. I know these scullers will be going faster. This young man is European. I can coach in five different languages: English, French, Spanish, German, and Swiss-German :-)

Being a rowing tutor.

In the last few days I have received training programs from University rowers in the US. My task is threefold. 1. Check the technique on the rowing machine. 2. Check the type of lifting that is done and whether it is conductive to greater boat moving ability. 3. Make notes on the training program and make sure that the candle is not burned at both ends. I do discuss different training issues as they come.

So a light bulb went on in my head. Am I their rowing coach, of course not. Am I an technical adviser, yes, but it is difficult for other to wrap their head around it. In layman's terms, I am a rowing tutor. This is by far the simplest concept. Students have tutors for all sorts of subjects, now they have one in rowing.

Are you getting ready for the Head of the Charles or the Silver Skiff in Italy?

Training Program by Xeno Müller

I just finished writing a training program for a sculler who is competing this fall at head races in the north-east of the United States with a final race in Italy, the Silver Skiff.

My job is to provide the right training program for rowing athletes. This sculler for whom I designed the training program signed up for the 90 day virtual camp during which I monitor his technical progress by analyzing his rowing technique every 2 weeks. I make technical drill recommendations and make sure to explain what the body feels when doing those drills. It is key for a coach to explain what it feels like to row a single scull at the highest level.

Smart Training | Good Team Communication | Sound Sculling Technique. What could have been in 2008 is happening now at the London Olympics 2012

In 2008... I coached two men, Peter and Tom Graves, for 6 months. They almost qualified for the Olympics in the men's double scull, they were one second and scrap behind the winning double. Peter and Tom weighed roughly 25-30 pounds less than Elliot Hovey and Wes Piermarini.... The difference in erg scores for 2K 15 seconds or more. How is it possible that Peter and Tom almost won? Simple, smart conditioning, great communication between brothers, and the right sculling technique. Now Peter is in the men's heavyweight 4X at the London Olympics. I am very happy for Peter. The lesson in all of this is that, technique makes boats move fast and technique is the major handicap in US-Sculling. This needs to change. I can help change this, we proved it.

Who am I looking for? Not the top 1%

Hello Rowers and Coaches.

I am coming back to my 1% theme of an earlier post.  Some peeps at the top of the rowing food chain, may not feel the urge to think outside of the box to find more speed.  This is great, because it gives the rest of the rowers the opportunity to improve training and increase boat speed.

Are you a member of a losing rowing team? Do you want to beat the top 1%?

I am your undercover weapon to row faster, much faster.
Whether you are a coach or a rower of a losing team, why not change your odds and start winning. Let me illustrate this from personal experience. Prior to our freshmen class at Brown University, Harvard dominated the collegiate races. Just because I was not a member of the Crimson crew, I was not going to roll over and die. Luckily we had a great coach, Scott Roop, and rowers like Jamie Koven and few similar chaps from U.S. prep-schools. During our winter and spring preparation, my national team coach form Switzerland, Harry Mahon, came to visit us. He taught Scott Roop and my team members how to set the blade and connect to the leg drive. This became the beginning of 5 years of practically undefeated seasons. By the time we were done with our collegiate rowing careers, we had several bags full of shirts from rowers whom we beat. Your team can achieve the same. For this, your coach has to be open minded, and allow an outside adviser like me to view rowing footage of your team. When a coach does not get outside information, his or her coaching eye becomes stale and does not pick up on subtle and gross technical problems. I have NO DOUBT that underdog rowing teams have more heart at any given time than crews that think that they have it all wrapped up. Don't you hate seeing the same 1% winning the gold medals. You must change this. I can help underdog crews go faster, MUCH FASTER, without taking the limelight away from the coach. As a matter of fact, I don't even want to be mentioned at the medal ceremony or awards banquet. Leave me in the shadows of the unknown, I would love it that much more. Doing my undercover job, from home, and directing motivated coaches and rowers into the fast lane, is a dream come true :-).

Join me at www.xenorowingcoach.com and let's beat the 1% into the ground, and finish them off.

Can you afford not to? $175 Slow motion stroke analysis, greater success with less work.

When I receive rowing footage via Youtube or email (up to 50 seconds with iPhone), I complete a slow motion stroke analysis with commentary. I help rowers pick the right technical drill to improve deficiencies in their rowing stroke.
The result is improved power application, greater speed, better boat control, and better erg score, without training harder.
How effective can training be, when you don't know what your weaknesses are and how to strengthen them?

Learning from Olympic gold and silver medalists, directly to your computer.

This is a digital compilation of my Olympic training and technical understanding of how to make the boat move as fast as possible with the smallest amount of wasted energy. Rowers who seek more speed on and off the water will benefit from this information. No matter whether it is sweep rowing or just sculling. The technical method has been proven successful at the Olympics in eights and in the single scull. My technical form keeps the Olympic record in the single scull alive to this day. So enjoy following the training program in the digital download as well as my life commentary as I scull my single in the Newport Harbor, my Olympic training site, under the sunny sky of Southern California.
