During the Australian Masters Rowing Championships held in Sydney the 1st to 3rd June, Rowperfect put two versions of the new model ergo and two older versions near the boat racks, so that competitors could warm up on the Rowperfects before getting on the water. I took the chance to try them out. The most recent prototype sits a bit higher off the ground than previous models, and so initially getting seated was a bit different (much the same as the difference between model D and model E Concept II's) but once I got used to that the ergo felt fantastically smooth and was a lot quieter than my 7 or 8 year old model. The curved handle was comfortable and there was no delayed action feel when taking up the load at the catch. The main frame on one of the versions of the prototype tilted from side to side unless there was even power through both feet and the seat tilted a little more readily than on the old model, but I soon got than hang of that and the over-all feel was much like being out in a single scull.
