Hi Xeno,
I am a novice sculler and looking at this clip I realised that the biggest hurdle for me with respect to improving my technique seems to be balance. The guy in the clip doesn't seem to go very fast but at the same time lifts the oars out of the water quite slowly without loosing his balance. What is the secret behind that? Is it setting up the scull properly or is it years of experience? What I can I do to improve my balance? Thanks,
Kai
Hello Kai
In sculling it is easier to control the boat by making sure that you get your forward body angle before you let the knees up. Thus your hamstrings stretch out a little and you once you start rolling into the stern, it is more like drawing the boat under with your heels. The boat moves towards you and not the other way around.
I hope this helps.
